Day 28 – Never Let the Fire Go Out
Scripture:
“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11 NIV)
“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.” (Leviticus 6:13 NKJV)
Promise
God commands that His fire in you never go out, promising to sustain it as you faithfully tend the altar of your heart.
Quote
“The Spirit’s fire is not meant for moments but for a lifetime.” — Dr. Daniel LeBlanc
Devotion
When God gave instructions for the temple, one command stood out: “The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out” (Leviticus 6:13). The priests had to add wood every morning, remove ashes, and make sure the flame stayed alive day and night. The fire was not optional—it was essential. It represented God’s continual presence with His people. In the same way, Paul urges us in Romans 12:11 to “keep your spiritual fervor.” This is not a suggestion; it is a lifestyle. The Spirit’s flame is not meant to flicker on Sunday and fade by Monday. It is meant to burn continuously, fueled by daily devotion. Too often we live from event to event, spark to spark—hoping a conference, a sermon, or a moment will keep our fire alive. But God’s plan has always been for daily fuel on the altar. Prayer when you don’t feel like it. Worship when your emotions are dry. The Word when your flesh craves distraction. Repentance when compromise creeps in. These are the logs of devotion that keep the fire burning. Ashes also must be cleared. Sometimes we cling to yesterday’s experiences, memories, or even regrets, and they pile up like ashes on the altar. If not removed, they choke the flame. Fresh fire requires fresh surrender—laying aside yesterday’s ashes so today’s flame can breathe.
Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 3:12–15 that much of what we build in this life is wood, hay, and stubble—works of the flesh, shallow compromises, and pursuits without eternal weight. These things cannot survive the fire. The wood, hay, and stubble in your life are the very areas God is asking you to surrender. The Holy Spirit can only burn what is laid on the altar. What you withhold will remain, but what you surrender becomes fuel for a purer flame. But Paul also reminds us that the same fire which consumes the worthless also refines the gold, silver, and precious stones in our lives—the faith, obedience, and works that carry eternal weight. God’s fire does not destroy what is eternal; it purifies and strengthens it so it shines all the brighter. Baptism by Fire is God’s way of removing impurities from our lives, just as a master jeweler removes dross from gold to make it shine. How does the jeweler know the gold is purified? When he can see his face reflected in it. In the same way, when we reflect the Master—Jesus—the fire is doing its job. The Spirit’s flame consumes what does not belong and refines what does, until Christ Himself is seen in us.
The fire within you is not fragile, but it is holy. God has entrusted you with it, and He has commanded you to keep it burning. Don’t settle for a spark that quickly fades. Build an altar that blazes day and night. Revival is not sustained by hype or events—it is sustained by consistency, devotion, and love for the One who is Himself a consuming fire.
Application
Add wood daily — fuel the flame with prayer, the Word, and worship.
Remove ashes — clear away distraction, regret, and complacency.
Lay down wood, hay, and stubble — surrender what is temporary and fleshly. LET IT BURN!
Let Him refine the gold, silver, and precious stones — allow His fire to strengthen what is eternal.
Keep the altar pure — build a lifestyle of consistent devotion.
Don’t resist the Baptism by Fire — it won’t kill you, it will reveal you and make you into a vessel of honor.
Declaration
I will never let the fire of the Spirit go out in my life. I choose to add daily fuel, clear away ashes, and surrender the wood, hay, and stubble to His flame. I welcome His refining fire to purify my gold, silver, and precious stones until my life reflects the face of Jesus.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I confess that I have sometimes let distraction, complacency, or routine dim my fire. Today I choose to turn from neglect and tend the altar of my heart. I surrender the wood, hay, and stubble of my life, and I welcome Your refining fire to purify my gold, silver, and precious stones. Burn until my life reflects the face of Jesus, the Master. Keep me burning with unbroken devotion so that others see Christ alive in me. In His name, Amen.
