Day 29 – The Spirit Is a Person
Scripture
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
— John 14:16–17 (NKJV)
Promise
The Holy Spirit is not a force or energy—He is a Person whose love abides with you forever, desiring real relationship and intimate fellowship.
Quote
“The Holy Spirit is not an ‘it.’ He is not a dove, wind, fire, or electricity. He is a Person who loves you, speaks to you, and desires your friendship.”
— Dr. Daniel LeBlanc
Devotion
One of the greatest misunderstandings about the Holy Spirit is treating Him like a power source instead of a Person. Some see Him only as a force, like electricity you plug into for miracles. Others reduce Him to an influence that inspires good feelings in worship. But Jesus never described Him this way. Jesus said the Spirit would come as “another Helper”—a personal Comforter, Friend, and Advocate who would walk with us just as Jesus did with His disciples. He is not a Holy Ghost! He is the Holy Spirit of God your greatest connection to the third heaven.
Think about it: Jesus called the Spirit “He”—not “it.” He has a mind (Romans 8:27), a will (1 Corinthians 12:11), and emotions (Ephesians 4:30). He teaches, comforts, guides, and even intercedes on your behalf. He can be grieved, resisted, or ignored, not because He is weak but because He is deeply relational. He desires to be welcomed, honored, and loved. He wants to be your closest friend.
This is why it’s so important not only to recognize Him as a Person, but also to fall in love with Him. Not just in what He does for you, but in who He is. He is your very connection to Heaven’s throne. He alone translates what is in heaven into your hands while you live on the earth. Every promise, every revelation, every divine instruction flows through His presence in your life.
When you wake up in the morning and say, “Hello Holy Spirit,” you’re not greeting a mystical fog—you’re speaking to the One who loves you more than you can imagine. He was sent to dwell in you, to walk with you, and to reveal Jesus to you in every part of your life.
Now let’s look at some practical applications:
• Acknowledge His Personhood: Instead of saying “it,” call Him “He.” Talk to Him like you would a trusted friend that you love and trust dearly.
• Fall in Love with Who He Is: Don’t only love His gifts, miracles, or power—cherish His heart, His voice, His companionship, His personal connection.
• Listen for His Voice: Expect Him to speak—not in thunder or noise but in gentle nudges, impressions, or Scripture brought to mind. He is always speaking, but sometimes we must slow down stop and be still to hear His gentle voice.
• Honor His Presence: Treat every moment with Him as weighty and meaningful, even in the ordinary tasks of your day. Remember your Body is His mobile home. Respect Him always in everything you say, everywhere you go, and everything you do.
• Choose Relationship Over Power: Seek Him for who He is, not just for what He can do. Power is the overflow of intimacy.
The more you see Him as a Person, the more natural your relationship becomes. You’ll stop striving to “use” Him for power and start walking with Him as your closest Companion. That is where true life, peace, and joy begin.
Declaration
Hello Holy Spirit—I acknowledge You as my love, my closest Friend, and my Comforter. You are not a force or a feeling but a Person, and I choose to walk in fellowship with You today.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, I confess that too often I have treated You like a distant force instead of the Person You are. Today I choose to honor You as my Comforter, Counselor, and Friend. Teach me to fall in love with who You are, not just what You do. I want to know you and love you. Thank You that You are my connection to Heaven’s throne, and that through You, heaven’s realities can flow into my life on earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
