Day 9 – Jesus is Our Example of Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Scripture

“When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, ‘You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.’” — Luke 3:21–22

Promise

Jesus modeled for us that ministry must begin and continue in the power of the Holy Spirit. The same Spirit who descended on Him is the One who comes upon us.

Quote

“If Jesus waited for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit before beginning His ministry, how much more must we?” — Dr. Daniel LeBlanc

Devotion

Jesus is the perfect example of a Spirit-filled life. Though He was conceived by the Spirit and full of wisdom and grace as a child, He did not begin His public ministry until the Spirit descended upon Him at His baptism. This moment was the transition from private preparation to public ministry.

Luke tells us that immediately after His baptism, Jesus was “filled with the Spirit” (Luke 4:1) and then returned “in the power of the Spirit” (Luke 4:14). That is when the miracles began, demons were cast out, and the Kingdom of God broke forth.

If Jesus, the Son of God, relied on the Spirit for power and direction, how much more do we need Him? Every time we whisper, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You,” we are following Jesus’ example—acknowledging our dependence on the Spirit to empower, guide, and manifest the Father’s will through us.

The same descent (katabainō — “to come down from heaven”) that happened at the Jordan happened again at Pentecost. John the Baptist called it being “baptized with the Holy Spirit” (John 1:33). The early church knew this was the fulfillment of what they saw happen to Jesus. His baptism wasn’t only about His mission—it was a prophetic pattern for ours.

Let’s make some application now. Ask yourself: Have I welcomed the Spirit in the same way Jesus did? Before stepping into ministry, service, or even daily challenges, pause and say, “Hello Holy Spirit, I need You.” Let His power, wisdom, and presence clothe you just as they clothed Jesus.

Declaration

If Jesus needed the baptism of the Holy Spirit, so do I. Today I say, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You.” I will not step into life or ministry in my own strength but in the Spirit’s power.

Prayer

Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You as Jesus did. Thank You for clothing me with power from on high. Just as You filled Jesus and empowered His ministry, fill me and empower me today. Let me walk in Your strength, wisdom, and anointing so that my life reflects Jesus. Amen.
