Day 37: Hello Holy Spirit
Forget Self: Flowing Freely
Scripture
“I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim… So I said: ‘Woe is me, for I am undone!’” (Isaiah 6:1–5 NKJV)
Promise
When you take your eyes off yourself and fix them on Jesus, the Spirit flows freely—without striving, fear, or self-consciousness.
Quote
“When you’re too focused on yourself, you’ll miss His voice. But when you’re focused on Him, you’ll hear Him clearly.” — David Diga Hernandez
Devotion
Isaiah had a breathtaking vision of the Lord, yet in that holy moment, he became obsessed with himself—his unworthiness, his failures, his uncleanness. But notice what happened: God didn’t tell Isaiah to fix himself or hide his flaws. Instead, a coal from the altar touched his lips, and he was cleansed and commissioned. The moment Isaiah shifted focus from his weakness to God’s greatness, he found his purpose.
The same is true for you. Self-focus blocks the flow of the Spirit. Whether it’s pride (“I’m strong enough”) or shame (“I’m too weak”), the result is the same—the river within is hindered. But when you look away from self and look to Jesus, the Spirit flows unhindered.
David Diga Hernandez once said, “When you’re too focused on yourself, you’ll miss His voice. But when you’re focused on Him, you’ll hear Him clearly.” That’s the secret to flowing with the Spirit—shift your gaze from your performance to His presence.
Think about a river. If you stare at your reflection on the surface, you’ll miss the depth of its flow. But if you step into the water, you’re carried by the current. Flowing with the Spirit works the same way. Stop analyzing how you look, feel, or sound. Step in. Yield. Trust Him to carry you.
Now let’s look at some ways to apply this truth:
Pray this daily: “Holy Spirit, help me focus on Jesus, not myself.”
Release guilt and pride. Both are forms of self-focus. Lay them on the altar and let the Spirit’s fire consume them.
Fix your gaze on Christ. Worship until your heart is captivated by His presence.
Step out in faith. Speak, pray, and act as the Spirit leads—even if you feel weak. He flows through surrender, not strength.
Self-focus complicates the supernatural. Spirit-focus makes it simple. The more you look at Him, the more freely His river flows.
Declaration
Hello Holy Spirit, I take my eyes off myself and place them on Jesus. I will not live bound by guilt, fear, or pride. Today, I flow freely with You.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, forgive me for every time I’ve made it about me—my weakness, my pride, my fear. Today I choose to fix my eyes on Jesus. Burn away self-focus and fill me with Christ-focus. Let Your river flow unhindered through me, bringing life to everyone I touch. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
