Day 20 – The Gift of Prophecy
Scripture
“But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” — 1 Corinthians 14:3
Promise
The Holy Spirit releases the gift of prophecy to encourage, strengthen, and comfort the church with God’s living word.
Quote
“Prophecy is not about predicting the future—it is about declaring the heart of God for the present.” — Dr. Daniel LeBlanc
Devotion
The gift of Prophecy is the first of the Speaking Gifts of the Spirit. To prophesy is to speak under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declaring God’s message to build up, stir up, and lift up His people. Prophecy is not fortune-telling or mystical guesswork. It is the Spirit giving you words that reveal God’s heart in a way that strengthens, encourages, and comforts others. Sometimes it brings direction, sometimes it brings confirmation, and often it brings encouragement when people need it most.
In Acts 21, Agabus prophesied about a famine, which allowed the church to prepare. In Acts 13, prophets and teachers in Antioch heard the Spirit say, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Prophecy not only encouraged—it directed the mission of the church. When you say, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You,” you are inviting Him to use your voice to speak God’s heart. Prophecy can come as a Scripture impressed on your spirit, a phrase of encouragement, or even a vision or dream. The key is to stay yielded, listen carefully, and share humbly, always aligning with God’s Word.
Let’s make some application now. Ask the Spirit this simple question: “Who do You want me to encourage today?” Then pray, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You. Speak through me to bring life and hope.” Be bold to share what He places on your heart, even if it’s just a simple word like, “God sees you and loves you.”
Declaration
I am baptized in the Holy Spirit, and I walk in the gift of prophecy. Today I say, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You. Speak through me with words that edify, exhort, and comfort.”
Prayer
Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You. Thank You for the gift of prophecy that reveals God’s heart to His people. Teach me to hear Your voice clearly and to speak Your words with humility, boldness, and love. Use me today to bring encouragement and direction to others, so that Jesus is glorified. Amen.
