Group Bible Study Guide: Week2

Group Bible Study Guide: Week 2 – Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Overview of Week 2

This week focuses on understanding and experiencing the baptism of the Holy Spirit. We will explore what it is, why it is essential, and how every believer can receive this promise from the Father. Through Scripture, discussion, and prayer, we will seek to be filled afresh with the Spirit’s power, gifts, and love. This study isn’t just about information—it’s about invitation. Each day, pause to say, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You.” As you do, expect Him to move in fresh ways in your life and in the group.

Session Format (Suggested 60–75 minutes)

  1. Opening Prayer & Worship (5–10 min)

  2. Scripture Reading & Teaching Review (10–15 min)

  3. Group Discussion Questions (20–25 min)

  4. Practical Application & Activation (10–15 min)

  5. Prayer & Ministry Time (15–20 min)

Day-by-Day Breakdown

Day 8 – What is the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

Key Scripture: Acts 1:5

Main Point: The Spirit doesn’t just dwell in you at salvation; He comes upon you for empowerment.

Discussion Questions:
How would you explain the difference between the Spirit within (salvation) and the Spirit upon (baptism)?

Why do you think Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Spirit even though they already believed in Him?

Group Activity: Share personal experiences of when you first realized the Holy Spirit was more than just an idea, but a Person you could welcome with, “Hello Holy Spirit.”

Day 9 – Jesus is Our Example of Baptism of the Holy Spirit

  • Key Scripture: Luke 3:21–22; Luke 4:1, 14

  • Main Point: Jesus did not begin His ministry until He was baptized in the Spirit. If He waited, so must we.

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. What does Jesus’ example teach us about dependence on the Spirit?

    2. How does the Spirit’s descent on Jesus connect with what happened in Acts 2?

  • Group Activity: Break into pairs. Each person shares an area where they need the Spirit’s power to live or serve like Jesus. Pray for one another, beginning your prayer with “Hello Holy Spirit, empower my brother/sister.”

Day 10 – Promise of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

  • Key Scripture: Luke 24:49; Acts 2:39

  • Main Point: The baptism of the Spirit is not optional—it’s the Father’s promise for every believer.

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. Why do you think Jesus called the Spirit “the Promise of the Father”?

    2. What does waiting in “faith, hope, and expectancy” look like in your life?

  • Group Activity: As a group, wait quietly in prayer for 5 minutes, each person whispering, “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You. Fulfill Your promise in me.”

Day 11 – Baptism of Boldness

  • Key Scripture: Acts 4:31

  • Main Point: The Spirit baptizes us in boldness, turning timidity into courage.

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. How was Peter different before and after Pentecost?

    2. Where do you personally need a baptism of boldness in your life right now?

  • Group Activity: Role-play evangelism in pairs. One person shares the gospel while the other practices listening and responding. Begin each role-play by praying, “Hello Holy Spirit, give me boldness.” Then switch roles.

Day 12 – Baptism of Spiritual Gifts

  • Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:7–11

  • Main Point: Every believer has spiritual gifts, and we should desire them so Jesus can minister through us.

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. What gifts do you believe the Holy Spirit has given you?

    2. Why is it important to remember that the gifts are for “the profit of all”?

  • Group Activity: Each person writes down a spiritual gift they believe God has placed in them. The group then affirms it in prayer, beginning with, “Hello Holy Spirit, thank You for this gift.”

Day 13 – Baptism of Love

  • Key Scripture: Romans 15:30; 1 Corinthians 13

  • Main Point: The Spirit immerses us in God’s love—revivals have often described this as “liquid love.”

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. Why is love the greatest evidence of Spirit baptism?

    2. How did believers in Acts demonstrate love after Pentecost?

  • Group Activity: Share one way you’ve personally experienced God’s love. Then sit in a circle. Pray for the person on your right, beginning with, “Hello Holy Spirit, baptize my brother/sister in Your love.”

Day 14 – Receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit

  • Key Scripture: Luke 11:13; Acts 2:38

  • Main Point: The Spirit is received by believing, asking, surrendering, receiving, and yielding.

  • Discussion Questions:

    1. Which of the five steps (Believe, Ask, Surrender, Receive, Yield) speaks to you most right now, and why?

    2. What often keeps people from yielding to the Spirit?

  • Group Activity (Activation): Lead the group through the 5 steps. Invite everyone to pray aloud: “Hello Holy Spirit, I welcome You. I believe, I ask, I surrender, I receive, and I yield.” Allow time for the Spirit to move with tongues, prophecy, or fresh baptisms of love and power.

Challenge for the Week

“Hello Holy Spirit, I believe, I ask, I surrender, I receive, and I yield. Flow through me today in power, gifts, and love.”
