DAY 21 — The Pearl: Our Heavenly Citizenship
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” — Philippians 3:20–21 (NKJV)
The Pearl of Our Heavenly Citizenship
The pearl of heavenly citizenship is the truth that I belong to Christ and His Kingdom. I live on earth, but my ultimate identity, allegiance, hope, and future are found in Jesus. As Scripture declares, “You are Christ’s” (1 Corinthians 3:23), and through Him, we have been “conveyed… into the kingdom of the Son of His love” (Colossians 1:13).
Paul reminds us that we are not ultimately defined by culture, possessions, politics, position, or the temporary systems of this world. We belong first to Jesus and His everlasting Kingdom. Because our citizenship is in Heaven, we are called to “seek those things which are above, where Christ is” (Colossians 3:1–2).
This truth gives us a secure identity in an unstable world and teaches us how to live today. Through the Holy Spirit, Christ’s life is expressed through us as we forgive, love, serve, give, and walk in peace. We are called to live as “children of light” (Ephesians 5:8) and to let our conduct reflect the One to whom we belong.
Prophecy to Anticipate
We eagerly await the return of Jesus, the resurrection of the dead, the transformation of our bodies, and the renewal of all creation. Scripture promises that Christ “will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body” (Philippians 3:21). This is the blessed hope of every believer: death will not have the final word, and our mortal bodies will be clothed with immortality (1 Corinthians 15:52–53).
Our hope is not escape from creation but resurrection life in a renewed creation where righteousness dwells. God will redeem the whole person and restore His creation under the righteous reign of Christ. We look forward to “new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells” (2 Peter 3:13), where God will dwell with His people and make all things new (Revelation 21:1–5).
The resurrection assures us that God’s redemption is complete. He will not abandon what He created; He will restore it. Our future is not disembodied existence but life with Christ in the renewed creation, where sorrow, death, and pain will be no more (Revelation 21:4).
Living as Citizens of Heaven
Heavenly citizenship means living under Heaven’s authority while representing Jesus on earth. We are not called to abandon the world but to display Christ’s righteousness, mercy, truth, humility, and love within it. Jesus calls us to let our light shine before others so that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Faithful living includes serving others, sharing the gospel, practicing holiness, and remaining steadfast in our assignments. Because our labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58), even ordinary acts of obedience carry eternal significance.
What a beautiful exchange. I exchange earthly fear for resurrection hope, temporary identity for belonging to Christ, and escapism for faithful stewardship. I serve faithfully now while awaiting the restoration of all things. My hope in Christ’s return does not make me passive; it strengthens me to live with endurance, purity, compassion, and courage.
The Allegiance of a Citizen
What receives my greatest affection, shapes my decisions, controls my fears, and determines my priorities often reveals which kingdom governs me. Jesus teaches that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also (Matthew 6:21).
To possess this pearl, I remember that my citizenship is in Heaven because I belong to Jesus. I am called to live faithfully on earth, serve others, share the gospel, and anticipate the resurrection and renewal God has promised. I am to conduct myself as a citizen worthy of the gospel of Christ (Philippians 1:27), reflecting His character while I wait for His return.
My citizenship is in Heaven, my King is Jesus, my assignment is to serve Him, and my future is secure in His renewed creation. I can live with courage because “if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord” (Romans 14:8). Whether in life or death, I belong to Him.
Prayer of Faith
Precious Heavenly Father, thank You that my citizenship is in Heaven because I belong to Jesus Christ. Thank You for the promise of His return, the resurrection of my body, and the renewal of all creation.
Holy Spirit, help me live faithfully in this present age without being conformed to its fallen ways. Teach me to love others, serve faithfully, steward what You have entrusted to me, and represent Christ well. Help me seek the things above while faithfully fulfilling my earthly assignment.
I exchange earthly fear for resurrection hope, temporary identity for belonging to Christ, and escapism for faithful stewardship. I am a citizen of Heaven, called to serve Christ on earth and await His return. Strengthen me to remain steadfast, knowing that my labor in the Lord is not in vain.
I am loved by You, precious Heavenly Father, filled with Your Holy Spirit, and alive in You, my precious Savior, Jesus Christ. In the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
