DAY 38 — The Pearl: My Father Has Me

Promise to Believe
I do not have to live afraid of tomorrow because my Father is already there. Whatever I need when I arrive, I can trust Him to faithfully provide.
My Father Has Me
There are moments when the future can feel uncertain. We look at what we have, consider what we may need, and start doing the math in our heads. Sometimes the numbers work, and sometimes they do not, but if we are not careful, we can find ourselves worrying today about needs that have not even arrived yet.
I have done that more times than I would like to admit, but then I come back to these simple words from Paul: “My God shall supply all your need.” There is something very personal about the way Paul says it. He does not simply say that God provides; he says, “My God.” This was the God Paul had walked with, trusted, depended upon, and watched provide through seasons of abundance and seasons of need.
Paul knew his Provider, and I think that is where peace begins. Provision is not simply knowing what God can give me; it is knowing the heart of the Father who cares for me. Jesus said our Father knows what we need before we even ask Him, and He pointed to the birds of the air as a reminder that if our Father cares for them, He certainly cares for us.
Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we are not strangers trying to convince God to notice our needs. We are His children, loved by a Father who already knows where we are, what we are facing, and what we will need tomorrow.
That does not mean I will always understand how He provides. God has surprised me many times because provision did not come through the channel I expected. I was looking in one direction while the answer came from somewhere completely different, and those experiences have taught me something important: never confuse the channel with the Source.
A job can be a channel, and so can a business, customer, investment, opportunity, relationship, or person. I am grateful for every channel God uses, but none of them are my Source. If I make a channel my source, I will panic whenever that channel changes, but if my confidence remains in my Father, I can trust Him even when one door closes or circumstances suddenly shift.
God’s provision is not always financial either. There have been times when what I needed most was wisdom, strength, favor, encouragement, an open door, the right relationship, or simply enough grace to make it through a difficult season. Sometimes provision looks like more resources, while at other times it looks like having exactly what we need for the moment we are walking through.
Paul says God supplies according to “His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” I love that because my Father’s ability to provide is not measured by what I currently see in my hands. My resources may appear limited, but His are not. Economies change, opportunities change, and circumstances change, but Heaven has not run short of resources.
Trusting God does not mean becoming careless or irresponsible. We should work, plan, save, give, seek wisdom, and faithfully steward whatever God places in our hands. Faith does not eliminate responsibility; it simply removes fear from responsibility. I can make wise decisions without allowing anxiety to become the voice directing my life.
There is also a difference between what I need and everything I want. Looking back over my life, I can see things I once thought I absolutely needed that I am now thankful God did not give me. A loving Father does not prove His love by giving His children everything they ask for. Sometimes His provision is giving us exactly what we need, while at other times His love is protecting us from something we thought we needed.
That is why knowing Him matters more than understanding every circumstance. I can trust His heart even when I do not understand His hand, because I have walked with Him long enough to know that He is faithful.
Perhaps you are looking at something today and wondering, “How is this going to work out?” Maybe it involves your family, finances, health, business, ministry, or future. There may be decisions to make and steps of wisdom to take, but fear does not have to make those decisions for you. You can stop, quiet your heart, and remind yourself, “My Father has me.”
He has not forgotten where you are, overlooked your need, or suddenly run short of resources. The same Father who carried you through yesterday will be waiting for you tomorrow, and whatever grace you need when you arrive will be there.
What a beautiful exchange. I exchange fear of lack for confidence in my Father, dependence upon visible resources for dependence upon Him, and anxiety about tomorrow for trust in His faithful care. I do not have to know everything tomorrow holds because I know the One who holds tomorrow, and even more importantly, I know He holds me.
When fear begins asking, “What if there is not enough?” I want faith to answer, “My Father knows what I need.” When uncertainty asks, “What are you going to do?” I want my heart to remember, “I will follow His wisdom one step at a time.” Whatever tomorrow brings, I can face it knowing that I will never arrive there before my Father does.
My Father knows what I need, and He knows exactly where I am. Whatever the future holds, I can rest in this simple truth: my Father has me, and He is enough.
Prayer of Faith
Precious Heavenly Father, thank You for knowing what I need before I even ask. When I begin worrying about tomorrow, remind me that You are already there and that Your resources are greater than anything I can see with my natural eyes. Help me remember Your faithfulness in the past so I can trust You more completely with my future.
Holy Spirit, help me never confuse the channels of provision with my Source. Give me wisdom to work, plan, save, give, and steward faithfully while keeping my confidence completely in my Father. I exchange fear of lack for faith in Your provision, anxiety about tomorrow for confidence in Your care, and dependence upon what I can see for dependence upon the One I know is faithful.
Whatever tomorrow brings, I believe Your grace will be waiting when I arrive. You know what I need, You know where I am, and You have never stopped caring for me. Today I rest in this simple truth: my Father has me, and He is enough.
I am loved by You, precious Heavenly Father, filled with Your Holy Spirit, and alive in You, my precious Savior, Jesus Christ. In the powerful name of Jesus, amen.
