Loving Leadership: Day 3
Day 3 — Rooted and Established in Love
“That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love.” — Ephesians 3:17 (NKJV)
“Strong leadership is not built on talent alone, but on a life deeply rooted in the love of God.” — Dr. Daniel LeBlanc
Rooted and Established in Love
Every leader is building something, whether it is a family, a team, a ministry, or a culture of influence. However, what you build is only as strong as what you are rooted in. If your leadership is rooted in performance, it will fluctuate. If it is rooted in approval, it will become unstable. If it is rooted in pressure, it will eventually collapse. But when your leadership is rooted and established in the love of God, it becomes steady, resilient, and able to withstand every season.
The Apostle Paul prayed that believers would be “rooted and grounded in love,” using language that points to both depth and stability. To be rooted means that your life is drawing its source from something beneath the surface, while to be grounded means that your life is firmly established and unshakable. This is not surface-level understanding—it is a deep, internal reality that shapes how you think, how you respond, and how you lead.
Many leaders try to grow outward without first growing downward, but true growth always begins beneath the surface. When your roots go deep into the love of God, you are no longer easily shaken by criticism, rejection, or changing circumstances. You do not need constant affirmation to stay steady, because your identity is anchored in something greater than people’s opinions. This kind of stability allows you to lead with consistency, clarity, and peace.
Being rooted in love also changes how you see others. Instead of leading people based on frustration, expectation, or control, you begin to lead them through the lens of God’s love. You become more patient, more compassionate, and more intentional, because your leadership is no longer about managing behavior—it is about cultivating people. Love becomes the environment where growth takes place.
When a tree is deeply rooted, it does not struggle to produce fruit—it produces naturally because it is connected to its source. In the same way, when you are rooted in the love of God, the fruit of your leadership will begin to flow without striving. Peace, patience, wisdom, and grace will become evident in your life, not because you are trying harder, but because you are connected deeper.
Today, take time to examine your roots. What is feeding your leadership? What are you drawing from daily? As you intentionally root yourself in the love of God, you will begin to experience a strength and stability that cannot be shaken, and your leadership will reflect that same depth.
Declaration (Say it out loud):
I am rooted and grounded in the love of God. My leadership is stable, strong, and unshakable because it flows from His love. I draw my identity, strength, and wisdom from Him, and I lead others with grace and consistency.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me to be rooted and established in Your love. Help me to go deeper in my relationship with You so that my leadership is built on a strong and unshakable foundation. Teach me to draw from Your love daily and to lead others from that place of stability and grace. Through my relationship with Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit, strengthen my roots so that my life produces lasting fruit. Amen.
Application — Reflect and Respond
What is currently feeding or influencing the way I lead others?
In what situations do I feel easily shaken or unstable in my leadership?
What would it look like for me to become more deeply rooted in God’s love in my daily life?
How does being rooted in love change the way I see and lead the people around me?
What is one intentional step I can take today to deepen my roots in God’s love?
