Day 27: The Healing Name of Jesus

The Healing Name of Jesus
When Hurricane Katrina struck South Louisiana in 2005, devastation surrounded us. By God’s grace, my family had good insurance, unlike many of our friends who lived below the levee systems in New Orleans. One close friend of mine did not have flood insurance because it was not required when he financed his home, and it was not offered at the time. When the storm hit, the destruction was overwhelming. His house, boat, and shop were completely wiped out—nothing remained but the slab.
He applied for assistance through the Louisiana Road Home program, but initially, nothing came through. One day, he mentioned his situation in his Sunday School class as a prayer request. After class, a man approached him and said, “I have a name to give you that will change your life.” He then shared the name of a woman who was the head of the entire Louisiana Road Home program. Not only that, he said, “I’m going to introduce you to her right now.”
After hearing my friend’s story, she simply said, “Give me your phone number. Tomorrow morning, you’ll receive a call around 9 a.m.” Sure enough, the next day everything changed. By the end of that same day, my friend walked out of the grant office with a check that allowed him to pay off his home and purchase another one. There are some names that carry authority.
I remember another moment when a woman in our church had been struggling with chronic pain for years. Doctors had tried various treatments, but nothing brought lasting relief. One evening during prayer, she began to quietly speak the name of Jesus over her body with simple faith. She later shared that something shifted—peace came first, and then the pain began to lift. Over the following days, she experienced a level of freedom she had not known in years. It was not dramatic or loud, but it was real. It reminded all of us that His name still carries healing power today.
In the same way, the name of Jesus carries authority far beyond human ability. It is not a magic word, a religious formula, or a phrase we use casually. The name of Jesus represents who He is, what He has accomplished, and the authority the Father has given Him. When we pray in His name, we are not approaching God based on our own goodness, strength, or performance. We are coming under the authority of the risen Christ.
Acts chapter 3 gives us a powerful example of this truth. A man who had been lame from birth sat at the temple gate, asking for help. Day after day, he was carried to the same place, living with the same limitation. Then Peter and John passed by, and everything changed.
Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” Peter did not heal the man through personal power, religious status, or human wisdom. He released the authority of the name of Jesus. Instantly, the man who had never walked stood to his feet, entered the temple, and began walking, leaping, and praising God.
When the crowd gathered in amazement, Peter made it clear that the miracle did not happen because of their own power or holiness. He said, “His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong.” The healing came through faith in the name of Jesus. The man’s weakness was met by Christ’s authority, and the result was perfect soundness.
That phrase “perfect soundness” is powerful. It does not describe partial help or temporary relief. It points to wholeness, strength, and complete restoration. The man was not merely helped enough to survive another day—he was raised into a new way of living. The name of Jesus touched the very place that had defined his life for years.
This is important because many believers mention the name of Jesus without fully understanding the authority connected to that name. We may end our prayers by saying, “In Jesus’ name,” yet still be more aware of the sickness than the Savior. Acts 3 reminds us that faith in His name brings strength where there has been weakness, soundness where there has been brokenness, and movement where there has been limitation.
The name of Jesus is greater than every diagnosis, every symptom, and every report. This does not mean we deny what we are facing—it means we refuse to give sickness a name higher than His name. The condition may have a medical label, but Jesus has the name above every name.
Philippians 2 tells us that God has highly exalted Jesus and given Him the name above every name. That means every sickness, every weakness, every fear, every bondage, and every burden must bow to His authority. We do not pray from a place of defeat, hoping Heaven might notice us. We pray from a place of covenant relationship, confident that the name of Jesus still carries power today.
This is why we must learn to speak the promise, not just repeat the problem. The man at the temple gate had a real condition, but Peter did not focus on the problem. He spoke the authority of Jesus into it. He did not say, “You are lame, and this is a terrible situation.” He said, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” Faith does not ignore facts—it brings them under the authority of Jesus.
Perhaps there is an area in your body where weakness has tried to rule. Maybe pain has spoken loudly, or a diagnosis has attempted to define your future. Today, remember that the name of Jesus is still strong enough to meet you at your point of need. You can pray with confidence, speak with faith, and believe that His name still releases healing power.
There is no sickness too complicated for His name, no weakness too stubborn for His authority, and no condition too long-standing for His compassion. The man at the gate had lived with his condition from birth, yet one encounter with the authority of Jesus changed everything. What had been impossible for years became possible in a moment.
One of the greatest discoveries in the healing journey is realizing that the name of Jesus is not weak, distant, or outdated. His name still strengthens the weak, restores the broken, raises the fallen, and brings soundness where sickness has tried to rule. Today, do not exalt the name of the problem above the name of the Savior. Speak His name with faith, pray His promises with boldness, and expect the authority of Jesus to touch every area of your life that needs healing.
Prayer
Father, thank You for the powerful name of Jesus. Thank You that His name is above every name and that His authority is greater than every sickness, weakness, symptom, and diagnosis. Today, I place my faith in the name of Jesus and bring every need in my body before You. Help me to pray and speak Your promises instead of magnifying the problem. Let the healing power of Jesus bring strength, restoration, and soundness to every part of my life. I thank You in advance for the healing, wholeness, and victory You are working in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
