Day 8: Healing Begins with Compassion

Healing Begins with Compassion
“Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.” — Matthew 14:14 NLT
One of the greatest questions people ask when they are facing sickness is not, "Can God heal?" but "Does God want to heal me?" Most believers have little difficulty believing that God has the power to heal. The real struggle is often believing that He desires to heal them personally.
The answer is found in the life of Jesus.
Imagine a mother walking through a crowded store when she suddenly hears her child cry out in pain. She doesn't stop to evaluate whether the child deserves help. She doesn't ask whether the injury was the child's fault. Love moves her before logic has time to analyze the situation. Her compassion compels her to act.
This is exactly what we see in Jesus. Matthew tells us that when He saw the multitude, He was moved with compassion and healed their sick. Notice the order. Compassion came first. Healing followed. The miracle was not separated from His love; it flowed from His love.
Many people picture God as distant, reluctant, or waiting for them to reach a certain level of faith before He responds. But Jesus reveals a different picture. He shows us a Father whose heart is full of mercy, kindness, and compassion. Everywhere Jesus went, He healed the sick, restored the broken, and lifted the hurting. His miracles were not merely demonstrations of power; they were demonstrations of love.
Compassion is love in action. Healing is compassion in action.
The same Jesus who looked upon that crowd with compassion looks upon you today. He sees your pain. He understands your struggle. He knows every doctor's report, every symptom, every sleepless night, and every anxious thought. His heart toward you has not changed. The cross settled that forever. If God loved you enough to give you His Son, then you can trust His heart concerning every area of your life, including your health.
Here is today's exciting discovery: healing does not begin with your ability to believe. Healing begins with God's compassion toward you. Faith is not convincing God to love you. Faith is simply responding to the love He has already shown you. The more you understand His compassion, the easier it becomes to trust His promises.
Today, stop focusing on the size of your problem and start focusing on the size of His love. The same compassion that moved Jesus to heal the sick two thousand years ago is reaching toward you today. His heart has not changed, and neither has His desire to make you whole.
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your great compassion toward me. Thank You that Your love is not distant, cold, or conditional. Thank You that You see me, know me, and care about every detail of my life. Help me to see Your heart more clearly and to trust Your goodness more completely. I receive Your love today, and I thank You in advance for the healing that is working in my body, soul, and spirit. In Jesus' name, amen.
