Day 37: Walking Daily in the Flow of Pre-forgiveness

Walking Daily in the Flow of Pre-forgiveness
Walking in pre-forgiveness is a daily journey that requires continual dependence upon the grace of God. There will be days when releasing offense seems easier and our hearts respond quickly with mercy, but there will also be moments when old wounds resurface, emotions become intense, and forgiveness feels much more difficult. In those moments, God does not ask us to force ourselves into freedom through human strength alone. He invites us to lean more deeply into His grace.
Second Corinthians 12:9 reminds us that God’s grace is sufficient and that His strength is made perfect in weakness. Our moments of weakness do not disqualify us from walking in pre-forgiveness; they become opportunities to experience the strength of Christ working within us. When our own ability feels exhausted, the Holy Spirit supplies what we lack and enables us to respond in a way that reflects the heart of Jesus.
Pre-forgiveness is not about becoming so spiritually mature that we never feel hurt again. It is about learning what to do with hurt when it comes. Instead of allowing pain to become resentment, we bring it immediately into the presence of God and allow His grace to meet us there. The Holy Spirit softens our hearts, renews our minds, and helps us release what we might otherwise continue carrying.
God’s grace does more than comfort us; it transforms us. It gives us strength to forgive when our emotions resist, patience when people disappoint us, and mercy when we feel justified in remaining offended. Grace enables us to respond from the Spirit rather than from the intensity of the moment.
There may be times when an offense you believed you had already released comes back to mind. A memory, conversation, or unexpected encounter may awaken emotions you thought were settled. When that happens, do not condemn yourself or assume that you have failed. Simply bring the matter back to God and receive fresh grace for that moment.
Pre-forgiveness is often practiced one surrender at a time. Each time the hurt returns, we choose again to release it. Each time resentment attempts to reenter, we allow the Holy Spirit to renew our thoughts. Over time, this continual dependence upon God develops spiritual strength and teaches our hearts a new way to respond.
The flow of pre-forgiveness begins with receiving. We receive grace from God, strength from the Holy Spirit, and the assurance that we do not have to carry every offense in our own power. What we receive from Him then becomes what we are able to extend toward others.
This daily dependence also keeps us humble. We begin to realize that our ability to forgive is not evidence of our own spiritual greatness but of God’s grace working within us. We can no longer look down upon someone who struggles with offense because we understand how much we ourselves depend upon the mercy and power of God.
Walking in grace does not mean ignoring wrongdoing or refusing necessary boundaries. We can address problems honestly and still remain free from bitterness. We can speak truth, establish boundaries, and make wise decisions while allowing the Holy Spirit to govern the condition of our hearts.
Today, consider whether you have been trying to practice pre-forgiveness through determination alone. Perhaps you have felt discouraged because the hurt seems too deep or because the same emotions keep returning. Instead of trying harder, allow yourself to depend more fully upon God.
His grace is sufficient for this moment, this offense, and this relationship. You do not have to possess tomorrow’s strength today. Receive the grace you need now, and trust the Holy Spirit to meet you again when the next challenge comes.
Pre-forgiveness becomes a daily flow when we continually receive God’s grace and continually release what He never intended us to carry. As we live this way, offense gradually loses its influence, our hearts remain tender, and our lives become a testimony to the transforming power of Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that Your grace is sufficient for me and that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. I acknowledge that I cannot live in pre-forgiveness through my own ability, and I choose today to depend fully upon You.
Holy Spirit, strengthen me when forgiveness feels difficult and renew my heart when old wounds or painful memories return. Help me release every offense into Your hands rather than allowing resentment to remain within me.
Teach me not to condemn myself when I must surrender the same hurt again. Remind me that each act of surrender is an opportunity to receive fresh grace and grow in dependence upon You.
Fill me with patience, mercy, wisdom, and love. Give me courage to address what needs to be addressed while keeping my heart free from bitterness and offense.
Today, I choose grace over offense and dependence upon Your strength rather than my own. Let Your love flow through me, shaping my thoughts, words, and responses throughout this day.
May my life become a testimony of Your sufficient grace and the freedom that comes from walking daily in pre-forgiveness.
In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
